My Modalities
My holistic approach to exploring the body and spirit is rooted in a rigorous, safety-based Western medicine background - I received my medical degree from Brown University and have eight years of clinical practice in the emergency room in NYC. Outside of formal schooling, I have been a lifelong student of meditation, attending a Shiva yoga ashram as a child, participating in numerous silent retreats in my 20’s and 30’s, and studying under numerous accomplished teachers. I hold certifications from Fluence, IFS Institute, International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine, OSHO International, and Embodied Masculine. I currently practice elements of Kriya, Hatha, and Kundalini yoga, OSHO Active Meditations, sound meditation, Vipassana Meditation and Buddhism, Non-dual Tantra, and Neotantra.
From the grounding, safety, and rigor of my medical science practice and the loving and peaceful approach of my spiritual work, my philosophy toward psychedelics emerged. Psychedelics give us the tools to open up our minds and hearts in order to make lasting change. The synergy between my medical and spiritual foundations and my psychedelic exploration has proven to be the key in my work to making deep, enduring, and unprecedented change.
I have developed a scientifically-grounded approach to psychedelics that utilizes my spiritual background and practices to expand and integrate the learnings that come from the medicine. Rather than medicating someone “back to health,” in the Western medical model, we will work together to create a personalized plan that engages deeply with your ongoing work into mind, body, prana/chi/energy, and spirit, and calls upon psychedelics to allow you to drop deeper into your experience, harnessing their neuroplastic effect to catalyze lasting change.
I emphasize approaching individuals with respect, holding space for their unique spiritual beliefs, and avoiding imposing any particular ideology. I focus on creating a non-judgmental space where participants feel free to explore and express their spirituality.
Psychedelics
Psychedelics open our consciousness for new and multidimensional exploration, while also granting access to our subconsciousness, our body, our energy, and our spirit. My approach to working with psychedelics honors and respects this process of opening, and views this as just one phase in the transformative process.
We start by priming the system with the tools of meditation, mindfulness, breath, yoga, group therapy, and vibrational therapy, so that we can safely navigate the deepest parts of our psyche, and return to these tools following the psychedelic journey in order to cement patterns of true and lasting change.
The psychedelic we will use is ketamine. It is a very safe anesthetic I am familiar with from the ER and it has grown in popularity due to its remarkable efficacy in treating depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
Science
As a former academic physician and assistant professor, I draw on the rigor of Western medical science to make sure each treatment is safe and efficacious. When it comes to psychedelics or psychotherapy, there are a lot of options and not all are proven. I apply the highest standards to my work.
Ketamine has a proven track record for safety and results with between 70-90% of patients receiving response to treatment vs 30-60% with standard antidepressants. Of those who have results, 60-80% report long-term remittance of symptoms vs 5-15% in standard therapy. Take a look at some of the linked papers for more information.
